Here’s a little secret for you, here is godly wisdom: learn to control yourself. Learn when to hold back and to walk away. Learn how to say “no” to yourself. On the other hand, learn how to make yourself do things. Learn when you should be bold and to charge in. Learn how to work hard and to push yourself. Learn to swallow your pride and apologize. Learn self control.
If you like to eat, learn how to fast. If you like to sleep, learn how to jump out of bed. If you like to have fun, first learn how to be serious. If you discipline yourself, you will find personal success and happiness. That is the way God’s Kingdom works.
Sometimes your feelings and even your circumstances will be your biggest enemies, and you will have to fight to get over the finish line of Right. But if you can be an overcomer in the small things, you will have what it takes in “crunch time.”
Learn how to yield to the Spirit of God and learn to hear the voice of God. Both of these things mean marshaling your flesh. Just remember that the person who lets his selfish desires determine his actions (and his attitude) is like a man who tosses a lit match onto a dry forest floor: destruction will swiftly follow. If, however, you come under the control of Jesus Christ, your reward will be realized both in this life and in the one to come.
