Watch children. They pretend to be something different than what they are: a superhero, a cowboy, a princess loved by all. No one forced them to pretend. They were impressed by what they saw and wished to identify with it.
You are just as easily impressed, though pretense you have outgrown. Like everyone else on this globe, you still have a tendency to imitate or at least cooperatively respond to others.
So take my friendly advice and choose the right friends and associates. Choose those who are wholesome and lovers of justice, and you will be deeply affected by their goodness. Seek out the company of those who are busy and complete their projects with excellence: you will learn more from them than years of going to college. Sit with honest people, invite to your home men and women of godly reputation, keep in touch with those known for being strong in Christ; soon you will be treated by everyone as being one of them.
If you do these things, then — and only then — will you leave the right kind of impression on others, the impression you really want them to have.
YOu are so right! Our 5 year old has now chosen transformers to be his “thing” for a while. I found it easy when he was imitating superman and spiderman to bring in teaching points of the word of God and attributes of God but last night as we were all together in the car and it was transformers this and transformers that, my mind was racing with “how am I going to bring this to a godly point?” And just like God the scripture came to my mind “be ye transformed” and so I told him, Bubby the first transformer was in the bible and that got his attention really quick and I began to talk to him about what it really means to be transformed to a 5 year old in a way that he can relate to.
As we have heard Pastor Holcomb and many others say, we reap what we sow and that includes what and who we surround ourselves with. Great blog.
We love you all,
